Becoming A Teacher? Two Tips To Help You Choose The Right Learning Activities

Posted on

Starting a teaching career can be one of the most exciting times in any person's life.  You get the opportunity to influence the minds of young learners and possibly even instill a love of learning deep within their psyche.  However, the first step to making a difference in any pupil's life is making sure that you have the appropriate learning activities. You need lessons that are impactful and that resonate without being too difficult for your learners to understand.  Use this information to learn more about two tips that can help you select the right learning activities when you begin teaching.

Differentiate The Learning And Opt For The Most Effective Model

The first thing you should do when you're looking to select the most appropriate learning activities is become a bit of a scientist.  Prepare yourself to try a number of approaches until you find the one that seems to reach the largest number of your students.

Understand that students learn in many different ways.  The last thing you want to do is set up your class in such a way where you primarily lecture for each and every lesson.  While there might be a few learners in the room who can retain the information and learn from it, there are likely quite a few pupils there who will be completely lost by such a style.  This could cause them to fall behind in their studies and even make them believe that they aren't as intelligent as they actually are.

That's why it's so important for you to differentiate your instruction.  Take a single lesson and teach it in various ways.  You might use a projector presentation one day, an original song for another lesson, incorporate group work as one example and finally end with the traditional lecture.  See which method seems to garner the best results and make this your default technique.

Look For Attentiveness

You can always tell when you've touched on a good learning activity because you'll find that your students will be ultra attentive.  This is always a good litmus test because if you find your class starting to fall asleep often when you teach you might need to switch things up so you won't lose your crowd.

Choosing the right learning activities doesn't have to be difficult if you just know what to do.  When you're ready to start teaching keep these tips in mind so you can enjoy the benefits of a class that truly learns.
